Seaman on Steam Launch KWONG HING,

Further states:-

I have been a foki on board the Steam Launch

KWONG HING for about three months.

On 21.1.40 the KWONG HING was towing junk

No. T.1703H from PENG CHAU to Shaukiwan. About 15.15 hrs.

when steaming past FUNG BAY I saw a Japanese trawler flying a Japanese Naval flag steaming from the south near Conic

Island. When the trawler came nearer the Japanese on board

waved their hands indicating for us to stop. The coxswain PANG KAM CHIU stopped the engines and the Japanese trawler YEUNG MUI MARU came alongside on the starboard side of the KWONG HING. The position was approximately 4 mile north

east of Conic Island.

Four Japanese three dressed in khaki and one in blue uniform boarded. The three in khaki were armed with two rifles with bayonets affixed and one with a fevolver. The Japanese in blue was unarmed. I was standing at the bow and one of the Japanese armed with a rifle and bayonet pointed to a rope to tie. I refused and he stabbed me in my right buttock. Another Japanese took a baton from his hip pocket and struck one of my fokis YUEN KONG on his shoulder. After a while the ropes were tied by the Japanese themselves and the KWONG HING and the junk were taken in tow heading for SALI MUN. When half way to SAM MUN the Japanese took down the British Mercantile flag The two Union flying at the stern of the KWONG HING. Jacks on each side of the bridge were covered up and also
